It all started with some baseboard. I hired a guy to install it in my first property - a little one bedroom condo. After I gave him the down payment he asked me out. When I said no, he took off and I never saw him or my money again. At the time I couldn't afford to hire someone else, so I opened Youtube and figured out how to DIY it.
Now, 10 years later, I'm a capable handywoman, real estate investor, and construction project manager. I've remodeled, managed, and invested in dozens of projects across multiple states. My partner and I are working on plans to build our own home.
Fundamentally, I believe in three things:
1) Build to Last - I've worked on twenty year old houses that are falling apart, and 100 year old houses that are in their prime. I know my work will outlive me. A hundred years from now when someone opens up a wall and finds something I did, I want them to say "wow, this is great."
2) Build to Serve - Buildings are fundamentally about the people walking through them. It doesn't matter how cleverly done something is if the people living in the space are uncomfortable. Great workmanship combines functionality, beauty, and simplicity.
3) Be Efficient - Whether you have a $10,000 budget (like I did on my first place) or a $15,000,000 budget (like my last client did) you want great value. It's aways cheaper to do something right the first time than to go back and fix it later.
