Plans often initially seem simple. And, they kind of are—if they are just a pretty floor plan or elevation sketch that you see so often. But, each sheet of a good set of construction plans represents hundreds of different decisions about your home. Many of those decisions are small. Some of those decisions are big and complicated and impact practically every other decision.
The key is that those decisions have to be made!
If they are made by you and a good designer on the front end, then that saves you time, money, frustration, and problems. If they have to be made haphazardly on the site in the middle of construction—and often by the guy who just wants to get his portion of the work done and is not thinking about the impact on other areas—then the costs in time, money, frustration, and future problems really add up.
