Meredith Edgar is a San Francisco-based singer-songwriter. With smoky-sweet ethereal vocals, she's been said to have "the voice of a chain-smoking angel." Cindy Emch of Secret Emchy Society said that Meredith "sounds like she stepped out of the starring singer role in a David Lynch movie." She has shared bills with artists such as Mark Eitzel, The Crooked Jades, The Pine Box Boys, Paula Frazer & Tarnation, Andrés Miguel Cervantes, and many more. Her songs are a haunting, melodic mix of passion and melancholy, seamlessly blending the styles of folk, Americana, and jazz into a unique form. Like the great singers and songwriters she is inspired by, Meredith fearlessly explores feelings and reactions to her own times and artfully makes them universal. For fans of Jolie Holland, Kathleen Edwards, Julie London, Adrienne Lenker, Billie Holiday, and Fiona Apple.
Voice Coaching Reviews:
REBECCA COSEBOOM (Halou, Beckylin & Her Druthers):
I’ve been singing in bands (Halou, Beckylin & Her Druthers, Stripmall Architecture, DarkDriveClinic) since around 1991, but I’d never taken any formal singing lessons. The closest I came was a single lesson with a woman back in 2000. She asked me to sing a song, crossed her arms, made a sour face, and said, “Interesting.” Unsurprisingly, I didn’t go back.
I sing almost every day, and while repetition helps you figure some things out, I’ve always wondered what I might be missing. I knew there were areas where I needed improvement. I met Meredith through the music scene and had played a few shows with her, so I knew her voice was incredible. What I didn’t realize was that she also taught. When I came across a video of her teaching herself an old jazz song and a post about her approach, I loved her process and decided to reach out.
Meredith is a wealth of wisdom and practical advice. She balances common sense with curiosity and brings a fresh perspective that’s truly refreshing. Whether she’s guiding the flow of the lesson or letting you take the reins, she creates an environment where learning feels both natural and inspiring.
Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just starting out and looking for a safe space to try new things, I highly recommend giving Meredith a call.
DREW PEARCE (Secret Song Club, Inside Lands):
When I was getting ready to record a new album, Meredith helped me prepare by showing me several techniques to refine my tone. She's an extremely patient, encouraging voice coach and I'd recommend her to any singer who wants to improve their consistency and confidence in the studio or on stage.
