About

I know how daunting learning to play music can be. I tailor each lesson to the needs of the student to foster personal empowerment, deep musical understanding, and a joyful sense of process. I am highly proficient in several different instruments and musical traditions, and I draw on these influences (as well as over 8 years of teaching experience) to provide a holistic and rigorous approach to the lifelong journey of musical engagement.

I teach upright bass, electric bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, fiddle, banjo, and lap slide. I can also bring you through the fundamentals of piano and drum kit. Stylistically I am deeply rooted in jazz and traditional folk (or 'old time'), though I also have real-world experience in the worlds of funk, gospel, pop/rock, and classical.

For musical entertainment, I lead jazz and old time string bands. Anything from solo fingerpicked guitar for a wedding ceremony, to a high energy party band, to cocktail jazz, and everything in between.
