I Taylor each lesson to suit the needs of the student. For students in school band we focus on developing technique and ear training/ critical listening skills plus excerpts from various types of music ranging from classical to popular music. However, the absolute most important part of learning music remains: I teach how to make practicing fun. I've found that many students struggle in the beginning because they're told practicing is work, when in reality it should be more like a game which is how I continued my learning process after I stopped taking lessons myself.
The joy I get from teaching is seeing that first spark of understanding in the eyes of my students while teaching music which by all means is not work, but the fundamental building block the of fun itself.
