Seattle Wushu Center was first Kung Fu school in West Seattle, founded in 1994 by Restita DeJesus. We offer classes in Kajukenbo-Wun Hop Kuen Do Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Qigong, Wushu, and Filipino Martial Arts.
Master Restita DeJesus offers private instruction and workshops in Tai Chi and Qigong, Filipino stick/knife martial arts, Filipino "Fitness Pangamot" (non-competitive Filipino "dirty boxing"/kickboxing workouts), and self defense outside of the school's regular classes. Seattle Wushu Center understands that people's personal weekly schedules may not allow them to take regular classes. We believe that everyone should have outlets for personal self-care, so we do our best to provide private instruction in these beneficial movement art on mutually available weekend days and available weekdays during the summer months.
Our private sessions are normally $75 per per hour, however a discounted rate of$50 per hour is available for Thumbtack clients. If committing to blocks of 5 lessons, an additional discount of $5 per lesson is applied.
Kajukenbo/Wun Hop Kuen Do:
*Kajukenbo is considered to be the USA's first organized mixed martial art. Developed in the 1940's, this martial system was known solely as a street self defense system. It has since grown into several branches, each with their own flavor of kung fu and related systems, yet retaining its "anything goes" mindset of self defense.
Filipino Martial Arts:
* Eskrima, Kali and Arnis are fighting arts of the Philippines, best known for its use of the stick and knife and street-savvy empty hand fighting methods. We incorporate a Filipino method called "Suntukan" (or "Panantukan"), known as "dirty boxing", which employs the use of elbows, knees and kicks as well as conventional boxing methods.
Tai Chi/Qigong
* Chen style's strong martial arts background shines in its movement. Its signature movement style consists of contrasting yet complimentary slow fluid movement and spiraling quick technique. It is taught in a martial arts fashion where students learn routines, partner flow drills and fighting applications.
* The most recognized Yang style is taught as an enhancement to health in our classes. Therapeutic Qigong (breathing exercises) and Yang style routines strengthen and tone the body without undue strain.
Private instruction in our 60-minute sessions are open to individuals or small groups of 8 or less. Ask us about private seminars in any of our subjects for larger groups for your martial arts school, workplace or organization.
About the Instructor:
Restita has studied various martial arts since she was very young, teaching since 1982. She holds, teaching certifications in Karate, Kajukenbo, Wun Hop Kuen Do Kung Fu, Filipino Fighting Arts, Wushu, Tai Chi and Qigong. She is also an ordained minister and Reiki Master Practitioner.
