***************Covid - 19 and Remote Tutoring Update***************
Due to Covid - 19 and lack of demand, I have closed my physical office and I am exclusively seeing students remotely. I have been offering remote services for a few years now but with the pandemic pushing everything online I have really been able to dial in the use of technology. I use Zoom (or GoToMeeting if you prefer) and a digital drawing tablet in coordination with Khan Academy and PDF versions of textbooks and worksheets to help my students get the most out of our sessions. I always cater my session to the individual student's needs and typically assign homework each session to be completed before we next meet. I have digital tools to check for completion as well as give a detailed report of our progress. This in turn allows me to focus on the student's individual strengths and weaknesses . I have attached screenshots from my classes to display how all the technology works and the general format of the classes, but please feel free to message me with any questions you may have.

My name is Alexander Maso, I am a Lewis and Clark Alumnus and the sole proprietor of Maso Tutoring LLC. I have built my own private tutoring business over the last 6 years and I have been teaching for just over 10 years now. I taught the SAT, ACT and SAT2s with Kaplan Test Prep for over 5 years and worked for in-school tutoring companies funded by No Child Left Behind as well as many other teaching and tutoring companies over the years. After years of teaching, I came to find that I enjoy the private "one-on-one" tutoring work most of all and set out to create a business of my own. I opened an office in Beaverton in 2014 and have been seeing students as well as working remotely from there since. I teach high school through undergraduate level mathematics and science classes as well as the HSPT, SAT, ACT and many SAT2s. Over the years I have come to developed a diverse range of methods for engaging different students but it always ultimately boils down to getting the student involved, even excited in their own education. I have come to believe that, while not entirely ineffective, lots of repetition, drills and dry memorization are not a very effective way to teach. We instead take time to focus on conceptual understanding and to link our current topic to past ones and even to things outside of the classroom. I believe in having a friendly relationship with my students and will always take a few minutes to discuss what is going on in their life. My goal is always to make our sessions as enjoyable as possible for my students; to make sure they feel comfortable asking questions or saying they do not understand. I have always found that good teaching is not only about helping to student to understand the topic but also about showing them they are able to learn anything if they are willing to show up, ask questions and put in the work.
