My name is Pat. I am a math instructor at Binghamton University. I have taught Calculus I and Calculus II. Students typically understand the basic concepts of Calculus, that the derivative represents the slope of a tangent line, that a definite integral represents the signed area under a curve, and that the indefinite integral is a differentiable function and it's derivative is the integrand. Performing the calculations requires knowledge of algebra and trigonometry. Apparently, many students do not have the proper foundations in these subjects. It appears that they don't understand Calculus. In reality, they don't understand enough algebra and trigonometry to perform the calculations for Calculus.
I decided to start to tutor students in algebra and trigonometry. I got numerous requests to tutor students in geometry. I began preparing students for the regents tests in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry.
As I have been a stay-at-home-Dad, I was very involved in my girls' education. I taught them geometry, algebra, and discrete mathematics. They are now captains of their math teams. I also taught them reading to comprehend. In doing so, I became familiar with both the SAT and ACT. I have several test preparation books for both of these standardized tests.
