Hi there,
My name is Ken, and I've been actively helping kids and adults with their writing skills for over 20 years on a myriad of projects, including general class essays and writing assignments, college app essays, speeches, resumes, narrative fiction and non-fiction. Starting with grade school age children in Los Angeles, and moving to high schoolers and adults in Detroit, I’ve merged affability with discipline, experience and focus in helping clients hone their writing skills and projects to an advanced level.
Having been on Thumbtack only a short while, my clients have had great success, receiving improved grades strong teacher/professor feedback, along with 100% of their desired college admissions.
Combining everything I’ve learned and done as a newspaper columnist & essayist, publicist and screenwriter, I enjoy nothing more than pointing folks in new directions, helping them devise and form thoughts into a cohesive position and/or compelling narrative.
I am particularly good with children, understanding their goals, challenges, and more importantly, who they may be as a person, which is the foundation of everything they will write. And while grammar may be a concern, I make sure it does not get in the way of a student’s creativity, or finding their voice. Nothing gives me more pleasure than watching students execute the process, as they often surprise themselves at the same time.
One caveat though, to parents and students: Writing is not a precise discipline, such as math, with a finite answer to a given problem. It is a craft, that requires rewriting and chipping away, similar to shaping a piece of clay, until a refined, intelligent, compelling work results.
