Piano and flute students are successful in learning to read, play, perform and count music-students are successful in festivals, competitions, auditions, achievement testing consistently, year after year. Love to teach beginning-advanced piano students in all aspects of their musical development. Through in approach to music- technique, theory, solo work, ensemble playing, aural and sightreading. Lessons tailored to students needs. All students are invited to enroll. Karen works well with special needs students also- she has 2 special needs children of her own who have excelled in music and now study in college. Karen has worked with students as young as 3 and as old as 95. Anyone can learn music and all are encouraged! I especially love to teach adult students of all ages and abilities!
I hold degrees in music performance and can provide references as needed.
I perform with the West Michigan Flute Orchestra and the Great Lakes Flute Ensemble. In addition to flute, I am pianist for St. John Lutheran Church in Jenison. I also am very active as an accompanist in the West Michigan area. I sing in the Trinity Lutheran Church adult choir. I also work as pianist for the Kelloggsville Middle and High School choirs in Grand Rapids.
I am a member of the Music Teachers National Association, the Michigan Music Teachers Association, The National Flute Association, the West Michigan Flute Association (past president), the Piano Teachers Forum of Grand Rapids. With these organizations comes ongoing educational opportunities for the teacher to always improve their teaching skills, learn about new music and methods. It also allows for students, especially piano to enter festivals and competitions to enhance the music lesson.
I serve as the music clubs coordinator for the Allegros of the GR Musicians's League. I love working with all the students! Most all my student participate in the local Grand Rapids Musicians league, a music education opportunity once a month during the school year, perform at club meetings, do outreach recitals to area retirement and nursing homes, participate in the annual Federation Festival and the annual Student Achievement program.

The Only West Michigan flute teacher entering students in achievement testing, NFMC activities and offering complete program for beginner through advanced flute students. Degreed and playing professional in the community. I also serve as the Development Director of the West Michigan Flute Assoc.

Lesson fees: $25.00 half hour (recommended for beginners), $35 for 45 minutes and $45 per hour lesson. I can help you decide length of lesson from your experience.
Love meeting new students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. It's so fun and rewarding to see the students excel at their musical studies, week after week. love to get to know my students on a one to one basis. Love to hear music being created.
***However, I only teach Monday thru Thursday in my studio.
