(Please note that I work in Alexandria and Fort Washington if you are looking for in person lessons. Also, kindly check my rates and general info in the FAQ before reaching out. Thanks! :))
Hi! My name is Julia, I originally come from Spain. I’m currently a full time piano teacher based in both Alexandria, VA and Fort Washington MD. I’m an award-winning performer in the last stage of my Doctoral degree in piano performance (A.B.D). And I’m also one of the associate pianist of the Grammy award-winning National Children’s Chorus in DC.
About my education-
In addition to my doctoral studies, I hold two masters degrees in piano performance (one from HKU in The Netherlands and another one from USF, Florida), a bachelor’s degree from the Royal Conservatory in Madrid, and a minor in music theory and in chamber music. During my school years I was a class piano instructor and collaborative assistant at the Universities of Memphis and South Florida respectively.
Music is my passion since I started learning at a very young age. It personally has taught me and made me experience things that nothing else I know has: music is a fascinating world, a language that connects our emotions to sound in a sort of abstract way that’s not easy to define with words. I had the privilege to study with high caliber renowned teachers and was exposed to both, European school and Russian technique since a very young age (one of my teachers was a student of a student of a student of Chopin).
I love sharing what I’ve learned with others!
About our lessons-
I consider motivation and fun to be fundamental elements during the lessons, so I tailor each lesson according to each student's personal goals and skills and do my best to make them rewarding on a personal level. I can help you develop a strong technique, building good habits from the start, strengthening your sight-reading, aural training, music theory, learning the fundamentals of improvisation...
I find beautiful to see my students exploring the music world, growing and developing their artistry and creativity through what I teach them.
Additional info-
Learning how to play an instrument is a tremendously beneficial activity for your brain, body and body-mind coordination. I have been teaching for well over a decade and have developed my own personal ways to effectively approach coordination and the learning process in efficient fruitful ways that pay off in the long run. I have experience teaching a very wide age range (my current younger student is 5 and my oldest in her 70s). I have also worked in-person with a few people with disabilities.
Feel free to reach out for a free phone consultation or a trial lesson at a reduced rate.
I look forward to working with you! -:)
