I offer healthy, practical martial arts training, customized to the needs of any person or group, based on 37 years of study across a range of disciplines, including: MMA, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kali/Escrima (FMA), Muay Thai, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, HEMA/fencing and purely combat-oriented practices like Krav Maga, Jeet Kune Do and the inimitable Mark Mikita's Fightology
My experience has imparted a strong sense of the aspects of fitness and technical competencies that are trustworthy in hand-to-hand combat. There are many beautiful martial arts traditions, encompassing vast bodies of technique, much of which is awesome, and yet not necessarily reliable in the overwhelming chaos of a serious physical fight ~ my approach is based on decades of direct comparative experience across schools/styles/gyms, intense sparring with advanced partners, and much thoughtful analysis.
I always remain a student, but I'm also an advanced martial artist; I have black belts; I have competed as an amateur; I have sparred with, and dominated, pro fighters and security specialists; more importantly, I'm a good trainer with a track record of helping people with all kinds of abilities and backgrounds.
I also have 20 years of experience with Bryan Kest's Power Yoga and general kinesthetic best-practices, which inform my methods.
Training with me, you should expect to enjoy a healthy workout, practice correct technique in a manner that is carefully adapted to you, and receive constructive feedback to help advance your development as a martial artist. I maintain a learning culture that is patient, non-judgemental and encouraging.
Whether you are a complete beginner or a fellow expert, my services will improve your fitness and fighting ability in a safe, supportive environment. We can drive the intensity to the outer limits, or flow slowly ~ either way, I will work with you to achieve your goals, and your health and skills will level up.
