I have been a professional tutor for eleven years, working to establish and maintain relationships with students and their families to help them improve their performance in any pre-collegiate level of education. My passion is to help students not only get good grades with my assistance, but to help themselves succeed on their own. My reward is a student’s realization that learning is no longer difficult!
I have worked with children with learning challenges including ADHD and autism, improved students’ skill and confidence in math, taught high school students test strategies to prepare them for the ACT, taught summer courses in Latin and algebra prep, and taught middle school and high school Latin III, Logic I and II, 7th and 8th grade Grammar, and Algebra 2 at St. John Paul II Preparatory School. I tutored for 2.5 years with Tutor Doctor and then independently for 8 years and counting after the franchise dissolved. I have raised students’ overall ACT scores from 1-4 points and up to 7 points on individual sections. I have improved students’ grades in algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, and algebra 3, and increased students’ confidence and scores in elementary and junior high math. I also helped a student improve his study habits for biology and raise his grade from failing to a B. I have also worked with an ADHD student to help him succeed in a college preparatory high school setting.
I received scores on the SAT in the top 99% with a score of 2230 out of 2400, was a National Merit Scholar, and graduated with a 4.03 out of 4.00 GPA. I also won first place in the Mid America Music Association piano competition in 2009 and 2nd place in the Missouri State High School Activities Association piano competition in 2011. I studied math and Latin at Saint Louis University. In my free time I enjoy singing Latin Gregorian chant and polyphony, translating Latin hymns, sewing, crocheting, and painting illuminated letters.
All of this experience helps me interact with your child, determine his or her learning style, and cater my explanations to how he or she thinks; both to listen and to improve focus and confidence. Generally I prefer to base my lessons off what my students are studying in school - with the exception of ACT preparation. This way my students are not burdened with additional work.
